Fifth Block Reward Halving
Bitcoin (BTC) · Releases & Updates · April 2028
Bitcoin's fifth halving at block 1,050,000 is expected around April 2028, cutting the BTC block subsidy from 3.125 to 1.5625 BTC.
Bitcoin (BTC), the original proof-of-work cryptocurrency with a 21 million coin hard cap, halves its block subsidy every 210,000 blocks, as hard-coded in Bitcoin Core consensus parameters (nSubsidyHalvingInterval = 210000). The fifth Bitcoin halving happens at block 1,050,000, when the miner reward drops from 3.125 BTC to 1.5625 BTC per block and new BTC issuance is cut by 50%. With the chain at about block 969,800 in early October 2026 and roughly 80,200 blocks left, the halving is estimated for around mid-April 2028 at a 10-minute average block time; the exact day depends on hashrate and can shift by weeks. The previous halving took place in April 2024 at block 840,000. Key topics: Bitcoin halving 2028, BTC supply, miner revenue, block reward, halving countdown.
