200ms Slots Go Live on Mainnet

Solana (SOL) · Releases & Updates · October 9, 2026

Solana's final SIMD-0525 slot-time cut takes effect on mainnet-beta at the epoch 1053 boundary, around 15:00 UTC on October 9, 2026, moving slots from 250ms to 200ms.

Solana completes its stepwise slot-time reduction on mainnet-beta. Anza, the core client developer, confirmed that the final SIMD-0525 step (250ms to 200ms slots) is pending activation and, because SIMD-0525 features take effect one epoch after they activate, it goes live at the epoch 1053 boundary at roughly 15:00 UTC on Friday, October 9, 2026. The series ran 400ms to 350ms to 300ms (August 28) to 250ms (September 18) and now 200ms, halving Solana's slot time versus mid-2026. Shorter slots mean faster block production and lower latency for trading, oracles and other real-time apps, ahead of the separate Alpenglow consensus upgrade. Key topics: Solana 200ms slots, SIMD-0525, Anza, Solana slot time reduction, SOL network upgrade, epoch 1053.
