MultiversX activates Supernova, its biggest upgrade since mainnet, cutting block times from 6s to 600ms. Mainnet upgrade begins Sep 1, activation Sep 10, 2026.
MultiversX is rolling out Supernova, its largest protocol upgrade since mainnet launch. Supernova cuts block times from 6 seconds to 600 milliseconds and targets sub-second transaction finality by moving to a Propose/Vote-then-Execute consensus model that decouples consensus from execution and parallelizes both processes. Following a live Devnet release, the mainnet upgrade begins on September 1, 2026, with full network activation scheduled for September 10, 2026. Internal testing has shown block finalization as fast as 88ms, positioning MultiversX among the fastest layer-1 networks. EGLD holders, validators, node operators and dApp teams should prepare for the upgrade window and ensure infrastructure is updated ahead of activation.
