Solana activates P-Token on mainnet in May 2026 — a 95–98% reduction in token operation compute costs.
P-Token (SIMD-0266) is one of the most significant efficiency upgrades in Solana's history — a rewrite of the core SPL Token program. Token operations like Transfer and Burn drop from thousands of compute units to under 200, freeing up ~10% of total block space network-wide. Devnet activation is already complete; mainnet targets May 2026. Fully backwards compatible — all existing apps and wallets continue working without changes.
