Western Union launches USDPT stablecoin on Solana in May— a SWIFT alternative for settlements across its 200+ supported countries.

Western Union, the 175-year-old money transfer giant, is launching USDPT — a USD-backed stablecoin built on Solana and issued by Anchorage Digital Bank. CEO Devin McGranahan confirmed the May 2026 launch during Q1 2026 earnings: "It is no longer a question of if Western Union will be active in digital assets; it is now how fast we can scale." USDPT will initially serve as a backend settlement tool replacing SWIFT for transactions with agents across 360,000+ locations in 200+ countries. Two additional products launch alongside: the Digital Asset Network (DAN) connecting crypto wallets to WU retail locations, and a USD Stable Card for consumers launching later in 2026.
