Stacks' PoX-5 hard fork (pending SIP-031) launches Bitcoin Staking — self-custodial BTC yield — projected at Bitcoin block ~907,740.
PoX-5 upgrades Stacks' Proof-of-Transfer consensus to enable Bitcoin Staking, letting BTC holders earn Bitcoin-denominated yield while their BTC stays locked on L1 under their own keys. Phase 1 is a managed ~12-month bootstrap: ~3,000 BTC capacity, ~3% BTC APY, 5% minimum STX pairing. Hard fork projected at Bitcoin block 907,740 (~July 29, 2026); final SIP-031 launch not yet formalized.
