UK Crypto Authorisation Gateway Closes

FCA · TradFi · February 28, 2027

Crypto firms that want to keep serving UK users under the new regime must apply to the FCA by 11:59pm on February 28, 2027.

The UK Financial Conduct Authority opened its cryptoasset authorisation gateway at 9:00am on September 30, 2026. Under the FCA's direction, the application period ends at 11:59pm on February 28, 2027. Trading platforms, intermediaries, custodians, stablecoin issuers and firms arranging staking must apply by then if they want to keep operating while their application is assessed. The full UK crypto regime starts on October 25, 2027, and the FCA aims to decide on applications filed within the window before that date. Firms that apply late cannot use the transitional provisions and may have to stop regulated activities until they are authorised. This could reduce the number of exchanges and services available to UK users.
