BAL WindDown Governance Vote

Balancer (BAL) · Deadlines · September 29, 2026

BAL holders vote until September 29, 2026 on BIP-928, a proposal to wind down Balancer and distribute its treasury to BAL holders after the Nov 2025 exploit, alongside a BIP-929 official-fork vote.

BIP-928, authored by Marcus Hardt, proposes winding down the five-year-old DeFi automated market maker: halting business development, sunsetting the protocol in phases and legally closing the DAO.

- Snapshot governance vote runs September 25-29, 2026 (closes 18:00 UTC), with a 5M BAL quorum - A parallel BIP-929 vote proposes an official fork that carries the technology forward under a new name - BAL holders who burn tokens would receive a proportional share of treasury assets (valued at $9M+) - Liquidity pools transition to withdrawals-only around October 30, 2026 - First redemption window targeted for late May 2027, final distribution roughly six months later - A previously approved BAL buyback program would be cancelled

The move follows Balancer's inability to recover from a $128M exploit in November 2025 and a failed April restructuring.
